The “Central
Government Health Scheme”
(CGHS)
for the Central Govt. employees and their dependents was started in
New Delhi in 1954. Subsequently, the scheme was extended to
pensioners, freedom fighters and other specific groups of people.
The scheme was introduced in Kolkata during 1972. Apart from Delhi
and Kolkata, the scheme now covers the cities of Mumbai, Allahabad,
Meerut, Kanpur, Patna, Nagpur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur,
Pune, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Shillong,
Bhopal, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar and Ranchi.
CGHS Kolkata has 18 allopathic
dispensaries. Besides a polyclinic provides specialist services in
Pediatrics, General Medicine, and Gynecology & Obstetrics. There is
also a Dental Surgeon and an Optometrist located in the polyclinic
providing services to the beneficiaries. There are two Homoeopathy,
one Unani and one Ayurveda units providing respective services. Five
Pathological laboratories attached to one each in four dispensaries
and the polyclinic are also providing services. A Central Medical
Store is functioning at IC Block, Salt Lake. |
